IP Gateway

IP Gateway Software executes with in a MANET node. MANET System administrator can designate some of the nodes as Gateway nodes to which a traditional Ethernet based local area network (LAN) is attached.

The core functionality of IP Gateway software is to perform network layer adaptation between traditional IP based Ethernet Network and MANET networks. The adaptation logic makes MANET network to be a ‘pass through’ network facilitating a secure seamless communication across network devices in LANs connected to different MANET Gateway nodes. The software developed is independent of any other software on the Gateway Node. The node acts as a gateway only for the traffic generated from the attached LAN.

MANET Gateway Node

A node in MANET network has the capability to route/forward packets that are not destined to it. Furthermore, the node if connected to an external (external to MANET) network shall have the capability to act as a gateway to forward the packets originating in the external network to MANET and vice versa. Any node with the forwarding capability is called Gateway Node. When a node is configured to be a ‘Gateway Node’, IP Gateway Software is activated. IP Gateway Software executes the ‘forwarding’ procedure.

MANET Gateway node is a SDR platform executing an SCA compliant runtime that include Integrity RTOS, SDR Framework. The platform has two network interfaces – MANET and Ethernet. A private LAN is connected to Gateway node on the Ethernet interface
